AB de Villiers returned to IPL with a brilliant innings in a losing cause. He smashed nine sixes and three fours in a 46-ball 89 for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Kings XI Punjab at Indore’s Holkar Cricket Stadium.

Speaking about his innings De Villiers was quoted as saying in an Indian Express report, “I did surprise myself and played a few good shots. It’s not like you become a bad player overnight, the rustiness is more self-doubt.”

After missing first two games for Royal Challengers Bangalore, AB de Villiers replaced Chris Gayle. De Villiers came good with a brilliant 89, but Bangalore only managed 148/4 in their 20 overs.

A 72-run unbeaten partnership between opener Hashim Amla and skipper Glenn Maxwell saw Kings XI Punjab beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by eight wickets.

Bangalore lost their tournament opener to defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad by 35 runs, and then went on to defeat Delhi Daredevils by 15 runs.
